View Full Version : Pipe Sleeve Chuck Substitutes

There was a recent thread discussing longworth and donut chucks. Depending on what you are making, don't over look the ease of use of rubber pipe sleeves when cleaning up the bottom of your turning. Various sizes are available and work quite well. If your donut chuck is too small, the rubber sleeve can be slipped over your scroll chuck and the tail stock can be tightened to hold your turning to clean up the bottom.

Actually even though I did make the longwoth chuck I now most often use some sort of jam chuck. One of them being a smaller towel folded up and placed over the scroll chuck, bowl placed over this and the tailstock brought up. This is far quicker than dealing with some other methods of reverse mounting especially when the vacumm chuck is of no use such as with porous woods.

I have used a pad from my da sander for this before. Think I may be visiting my local plumbing store this weekend. Great idea.
