The Bunn "Phase Brew"
http://www.amazon.com/HG-Phase-8-Cup-Coffee-Brewer/dp/B003O976HY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323027996&sr=8-1 It heats the water for 6 minutes before brewing so a more ideal water temperature is achieved as opposed to typical drip pots. But I want a larger cup capacity and these are limited to 8 cups. Does another manufacturer use a similar technology that uses truly hot water that has a bigger cup capacity (12 cups)? I don't care if it uses a heated carafe or unheated thermos to hold the brewed coffee. I know Bunn makes larger capacity units but they keep the water hot all the time and are not for infrequent use. I Googled for "Phase brew" and only Bunn shows up so that may just be a propriety term. Thanks

We use this one. (http://www.lehmans.com/store/Kitchen___Coffee___Non_Electric_Drip_Coffee_Maker_ __1065425#1065425) We take it camping and we've also used it when we don't have electricity. It makes the coffee the same way and same great flavor with our without electricity. We will never have to replace another coffee pot. :D

For a much lower cost, my sister uses one of these french presses, and brings it along for travel and camping. It makes a great cup and does small quantities well.

We just got back from the mall and there were people lined up buying those overpriced machines that do one cup at a time using the little pods. Promises to be a big seller as a Christmas gift I guess.

Thanks Dennis, forgot to mention, it needs a timer;)

i owned the 8 cup phase brew for a short time before returning it...( it just stopped brewing coffee). It made OK coffee...and i bought it for the same reason you suggested. It controls the temp of the brew water.

But in reality...the coffee didn't tasted any better or worse than other coffee makers i have owned.

We have a french press Joe, and it does make good coffee although it tends to leave grounds in the cup. Tim, that's interesting, thanks for an unbiased opinion about the brew quality.
