Hi folks, could anyone care to help on a conundrum? I have been given a piece of branch (about 3" in diameter, 7" long). It has a bark similar to pine / conifer / cedar - long and flaky pieces. Straight grained, "looks like hardwood, turns like softwood" was the quote from Jon, my turning partner. My wife took a look at it, and said "It's Yew"... Without the picture, I know it'll be difficult, so does anyone have a clue where to find tree types by bark, on the internet? - I'm going to start a search for it now btw.
I'm only asking, because if it's a pine derivative, I don't mind breaking it etc, if it IS Yew, I'm going to save it for something special (maybe even a freedom pen or two!).
Thank you for any answers.
