Last year, Baxter Smith gave me a few pieces of 100 year old Apple. Fun to turn, dream to sand. Color is awesome, but I notice on the inside there are darker areas where on the outside they are lighter.....they run even with each other. I reckon when you are 100 you can do what ever you like haha! Its roughly 7 x 6 and 3 tall. Rubbed in some brushing Laquer and waxed

You've done Baxter's apple good, Ken. The shape and colors are great.

Congrats on getting it to the finishline Ken. It looks good! Its a little different than turning hickory and oak isn't it.:)
I have had several pieces where the sapwood had those dark marks in it. More so on the inside as you noticed. I have wondered if it was caused by bruising or burnishing with the heel of the gouge. You might not have done such a thing but I could.;):)

I dont think its bruising, it corrosponds directly with the outside areas that are blotchy white(lighter then the sapwood) I was thinking maybe a reaction to the air but I cant recall if they were there when roughed or not. I have another piece left and I will try and remember to look more closly at it

Very nice work Ken, and I like the composition of this shot. Provides a little extra warmth to a beautiful piece.
