Johnny Quest was a favorite, Race Bannon, Haji, Dr. Quest, and Bandit were great.

What? No fans of "Rocky The Flying Squirrel"?

Does "Fireball XL-5" count as a cartoon? I think of it as a puppet show. I liked the theme music.

What were the names of some of those really cheaply made cartoons where everything about the characters was a cartoon except the mouth. The mouth appeared to be film of an actual mouth.

SPACE PATROL !!!

Bill,

I sent away for a Space Patrol helmet, you know, a million boxtops and some stamps. It took long enough to arrive that I had outgrown the need for it. It was pretty lame too. About on par with the baking soda submarine.

Stephen, I believe that would be Clutch Cargo.

My favorite would be lunch with Soupy Sales (who started localyl in Detroit before going national).

Being a lifelong Chuck Jones fan, I have to go with the Looney Tunes cartoons as my all time favorite.

But the funniest cartoon I ever saw was when the NBC peacock was cooked and eaten for Thanksgiving on Rocky and Bullwinkle!

Rick Potter

Ahh the bakingsoda submarine.. I forgot all about those.. I also sent away for the 'UDT divers' which were also powered by baking soda..(those probably were core reason I ended up working in the diving industry for over 20 years) the I 'did' like the Space Patrol Periscope, but didn't have the money to send away for it, so I built one, and just pretended to see marauding robots over the wall.. ha

My Favorite was (still is) HUCKLEBERRY HOUND!

Although I watched and enjoyed Bugs, Daffy, Road Runner, etc. I always LOVED all the early Hanna-Barbera cartoons....plus by the time I was 12 ('65) I could draw them (still can!)

Yogi, Boo-boo, & Mr. Ranger
Quick Draw McGraw & Baba-Looey
Auggie Doggie & Doggie Daddy
Yakky Doodle & Chopper
Top Cat
Wally Gator
Magilla Gorilla
Snagglepuss
etc.

I also loved Jonny Quest, but I never cared for Scooby-Doo....;)

Favorite shows:
Superman (George Reeves)
Lone Ranger (Clayton Moore)
Batman (Adam West)

Mr. Wizard. I'm a nerd and I love science and experiments and what not. Loved the chemistry sets of my era...100 dangerous chemicals, not like the junk they give kids today which have basically salt and baking soda.

Bugs Bunny's square dance in 'Hillbilly Hare'

That might be a different show! I don't remember anyone in the cast named 'Billy' (and I should, for obvious reasons..) That name is not mentioned anywhere in the wikipedia link.. You can also search the Internet archive for old radio and television shows.. Got a favorite? It's probably on here somewhere..
here's a archive link to a episode of space patrol you can watch..

+1 to Pink Panther including the movies with Peter Sellers.
Always have been and I still am a Bugs Bunny and Friends fan.
Enjoyed Johnny Quest.

As far as show go there were a number of them in the afternoon we watched:

Rat Patrol
Star Trek (Captn. Kirk and his crew)
Green Hornet
Batman and Robin
Who could forget the Munsters
Gilligans Island
Lost in Space

I'm sure there are others just can't think of them.

OK Bill, you win,

It was obviously 'Buzz Corey and the Spaaaaace Patrol' I was remembering. Probably got it confused with 'Bobby Benton(?) and the B bar B ranch, or some other fragment of my tormented youth. Probably got that one wrong too.

Rick P

Edit: Yup, got it wrong, it was Bobby BENSON and the B bar B. Amazing what you can google.

Hard to narrow it down to a favorite. I liked all the Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera stuff, as well as SuperFriends, and I see that nobody has mentioned a classic--Hong Kong Phooey (almost as old as I am, and only about 30 episodes made, but it was re-run well into the '80s).

Bugs, Rocky&Bullwinkle, Taz, Yosemite Sam, Tom&Jerry, Foghorn Leghorn, Sylvester&Tweety, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, G.I.Joe, Jetsons, Road Runner, Johnny Quest, Popeye, Daffy Duck, Donald Duck, Speedy Gonzalez, it was all good...I'm sure I'm leaving a bunch out. I was always up at 6 AM on Saturdays no problem as a kid.

I was going to say I was surprised nobody had mentioned Superfriends but Jason did. Second for me would be Looney Tunes the latter started my Saturday morning and the former ended it, everything in between was filler.
