With Santa on the way soon, I have been wanting to try out the Ewt, mini or midi. I work mostly small items, including platters/mirrors/pens/boxes..... I was reading the mini has I think a 4" tool length, anyone use them? And those that do, would you recommend either the mini or midi over the other? Thanks, don't post often, but read all the time. If you are sure you will be working with small stuff the mini is the right tool. For me the big difference in the mini and the regular rougher is the width of the shaft. I believe the mini is on a 3/8" shaft so it needs to be placed firmly on the tool rest to get it to sit square.

is the shaft between the mini & midi different sizes? After reading your reply I am looking for a finisher, suppose the midi would do the job of both?
