I have finished refurbishing my H. Diston and Son's #12 handsaw. I am most grateful for the saw bolt that Mark Wyatt furnished to me as this made my saw complete. As I mentioned in a previous post this was my dad's saw and I inherited it upon his death in 1978. The saw dates to the late 1800's or very early 1900's and I did not realize what a nice saw it was since it was rusty, missing a nut and was fairly dull. I had the saw professionally sharpened by Daryl Weir and he did an outstanding job on it. I gave the saw a really good workout the last couple of days as I had some 2" x 7" lumber that I needed to cut into smaller lengths and I was amazed at how nice it cut and what little effort it took to cut through this full 2'' piece of wood. The saw tracks beautifully and I had no problem cutting to a line.

I had promised Mark and a few others that I would post a couple of pictures when I completed my work on the saw.

I've got a couple of 12's now - a shorter one sharpened to 11pt crosscut, and one I just acquired that needs some work, that'll probably be my rip. But they sure are nice, aren't they? Most comfortable handle for my hands. The 11pt panel saw has pretty much replaced my backsaws for all sorts of things . . .

They're a joy to use, aren't they? It's always nice to hear about Creek folk helping each other out, so kudos to Mark!

Looks like a lovely tool, enjoy it!

Mine is an 8pt crosscut and I am sure it will become a staple in my tool arsenal.

I really appreciated Mark helping me out and thought his act was very kind.

Great saw and great story, Gordon! It's a beautiful tool and without any doubt a perfect user since it went through Daryl's hands. Having such a beautiful tool from Dad is a special thing that makes it priceless.

Recently I had the experience myself how helpful woodworkers are. One of my vintage handsaws was lacking a matching saw screw, too. Joshua Pierce and Mark Wyatt sent me some spare parts which I never would have got here. Both of them refused any payment! Great group of people here for sure..

That is a great looking saw Gordon. I'm sure it will give you years of good service. And thanks for the kind words.

Beautiful saw, Gordon, looks like the rust cleaned up nicely. But what's that ugly yellow table-like thing in the background of your shots?

That is insurance so that when this old man gets tired he can still complete the cut. :D
