I want to add 2 gig of ram to my new laptop. This is what I have,
DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 (non-ECC. and this is what I am looking at,
2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model CM3X2GSD1066.Will the one that is pc3 8500 slow down the pc312800. The LC on the 8500 is 7. Thanks for the help.

Scott

It is always recommended that memory is matched. I would recommend going to crucial.com and downloading their tool that scans your system and suggests DIMMs that will fit. Just installed 4gig from them that I ordered on Sunday but the UK centre is close to me.

Graham

Thanks for the help. For each channel, the bus will operate at either the slower speed -or- it will drop into single channel mode (performance reduction either way). We're talking about a ~5% performance hit...

Thanks for the help. Crucial is the one that recommended the one above. I have looked on Newegg but can not find one that matches what I have. I think I shall give up for now. Thanks again.

I would find out what the maximum bus speed that the laptop supports and just order matching dims to replace whats already in it. Right now memory is extremely cheap, if it will take 2 x 4gb sticks, they can be had for around $50 or less.

never ever mix and match memory you will not like the results

with the price of memory being pretty low if it were me i would max out the laptop with matching sticks of RAM but check the specs of your machine before you buy anything and make sure it will handle what you put in it

Has it gotten worse ? I am running Win 7 Pro 32 bit and have not installed the 64 bit disks as of yet, and probably won't unless I find a need so at 4 megs, it is already over kill. Just paid property taxes, Home owners insurance, and an unexpected dentist bill of 1900.00, At this point every dollar counts :)

Which operating system do you have on your 4530s? I bought this 4530s in September http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157823 that came with 2gig memory and Win 7 Pro 32. HP sent me the discs to Win 7 Pro 64 at no charge, so I updated to this Corsair memory: CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 Laptop Memory Model CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145281) and it works great! I think I saw it on sale at either NewEgg or Amazon in the past week for 39.95 and free shipping. There may still be a 10.00 rebate. I got my rebate so paid about 34.00 for it.
Also, if you have the 32 bit version of Windows and can't use more than 4 gig, I've got the original 2 gig that came out of mine that I will send to you if you PM me your address. This is made by Samsung. Let me know. It may not be matched, but should work fine. Jim.

part of the "no-no" in mixing RAm is that you aren't getting what you think you are getting i.e. the speed of all of it will be that of the slowest chip in the mix , at best, and at worst you confuse the heck out of your machine and the speed is actually reduced below that of the slowest chip, you can also experience random oddball performance of your software apps (they run in the RAM) i have had the technicalites of that explained to me in a previous life when i was in that business, but i didn't really understand the technical nuances then and definitely couldn't repeat the explanation i got back then (it was what i call "theoretical " math) in the final analysis if you have done it and have no complaints probably not going to fix what isn't broke and if you are going to add RAM why take the chance ?

either way good luck with your upgrade :-0
