Whew! Finally got this off the lathe. Has a couple of coats of DO so far, letting it dry a few days before I try to do anything else. 14" tall, 8" at widest point, 3 1/2" at foot, 1 1/2" opening. I've never attempted anything like this before, and I'm pretty pleased with it. Lots of things learned for sure. Room for improvement, of course, but the CFO hasn't quit drooling on it since I first took the gouge to it............

Thanks for looking.

First of all, just having the opportunity to turn a burl with that height is a rarity! Congrats! To top that, you did a very nice job with it, too. Beautiful wood!

Beautiful piece! I'd consider bagging it for a month or two if it's pretty green or if the walls are fairly thick... Cherry burl seems to like cracking in this neck of the woods!

That came out nicely. I would definitely bag it if it's green, unless you are looking for some cracks for character.

Pretty neat! This side looks great! I was lucky enough to find one of a similar size and turned it endgrain with the pith centered at the top and bottom. Was that your situation too?

Really turned out nicely out of some beautiful wood.

A fine job on a beautiful piece of wood. The drool marks don't show at all. Careful now....hf's are very addictive!

Quite the showpiece! At 14" tall, that is a huge chunk of burl! Neat thing is with it being Cherry, it is going to get better looking with time! Nice work!
