I have some wide stock that needs to be trued up.
Will running it thru a double drum sander flatten
as well as smooth it. If I run it thru a large planer it
the twist seems to stay. Thanks in advance, Kevin

No jointing? Drum sanders don't flatten.

... you can flatten by hand, with a scrub plane.

Follow this with a #5 to take down the high spots, and a smoother to get it even.
Then pass through the sander.

As mentioned before, the sander just follows the existing contour of you board.

AS mentioned; jointers (powered or otherwise) make surfaces flat, planers and sanders make sides parallel. If it is too wide for your jointer and hand jointing is not they joy to you that it is to some . . . planer sled (http://www.finewoodworking.com/SkillsAndTechniques/SkillsAndTechniquesPDF.aspx?id=24118)! I made one to get me by till I bought a wider jointer and it still comes in handy for really wide stuff.
