Paper towel holder

:rolleyes: I need to make a vertical paper towel holder to set on the top of a counter. Has anybody got a plan? I would like one hand operation. Is that little dowel that sticks up on some store models for tearing towels off the roll? Will 1 1/2" stock be enough weight?

That second, offset dowel on the store models is for tearing off the towels. Loml bought a metal one... It works okay. If you really do try to tear off the towels one handed it will tip over. Just not enough weight. I would think that you would have to put lead in one to make it heavy enough to tear off one-handed.
