Here are a set of 6 coasters made from walnut that are going to the art gallery tomorrow. They have felt on the bottom to keep them from scratching furniture and cork on the up side. Finished with GF Woodturners finish. They are 4 1/2" give or take 1/16".

Bernie,

I like these very much ! Elegantly simple, yet beautiful. I've been wanting to make some for a while and I've now got the inspiration. Will the GF finish be water resistant ?

Thanks Kathy and Dick. Dick they told me it was water and chemical resistant. They said it could be used on floors but was made for turners.

nice coasters, I just finished up a few myself. I turned a oak disk to fit in my chuck, then drilled and tapped a hole for a 5/16 bolt, drill a hole in the center of my blank 1/2 inch deep and thread on the blank. Saves a lot of extra messing around , and easy to get it all done in one shot. Also I think you posted the other day about sealing and burnishing lacquer on a new piece of wood. I tried that on a test piece and it worked pretty slick. I think if I waited a little longer for it to dry I could have put on another coat. Thanks for the idea. Again nice coasters

Bernie - these look great! The only problem I have is with the amount of felt you are using... it leaves no place for a signature! What about using 3 or 4 felt dots? Would then allow you to sign your work!!

Thanks again. Steve I signed with a archival fine tip pen right at the felt line. Looks good and doesn't detrack from the overall appearance as when they are sitting it blends in with the black felt. If you pick them up you can see the writing.

I like 'em Bernie. What did you use to glue the cork in place?

Those are really nice, Bernie. The finish also looks good, was it friendly to apply?
