Here are a couple of curly maple peppermills done this week. One has GF Woodturners finish and the other lacquer. They are both 10" tall and have little coasters to sit in to keep pepper off the table. One is commissioned and the other goes on my table. I made these a little heftier as I like them to fit my hand and it was requested by the person commissioning the other one. Had some soft punky wood but was able to work around it.

Bernie, that sure is some fine looking wood - can't tell that it had any soft spots as you got a really nice finish. Great job!!

Thanks everyone. Hayes I use the Crush Grind with the ceramic mechanism from CSUSA. I use these because I grind sea salt and a lot of folks are starting to do the same.

Thanks Jim. No secret. I got the wood from Larry Merlau via a friend of his. Neither one has any of it left as I already asked for 3 to 4 more pieces.:(

Real nice Bernie! How wide are they? Like the coaster idea, and the figure in the maple is great.

Thanks again. Dan normally I try to get this shape at 2 to 2 1/2" but I wanted these a little heftier so they are just under 3" across. My wife actually asked me to make a coaster for the salt and pepper grinder we have on the table so the pepper/salt wouldn't be on the table. They worked out great so all my mills from now on will have coasters.

Steve I haven't seen that much curl in turned wood. I have turned some curly maple but not like this.

Those are gorgeous Bernie! That's some great looking maple! I like the shape you chose, it shows off the figure really nicely. The coasters are a super nice touch too.
