I'm no Baxter Smith or Reed Gray, but I was finally able to successfully core this bowl. The big bowl is 13" in diameter and I left it 1.5" thick. Now they are wrapped in paper drying. A couple shots of the "work site"... John Keeton avert your eyes. Learned some good lessons on this one that should help with the next few. As an aside, I'm really impressed with the camera on the new iPhone.

Nate, fine looking bunch of rough outs!!! I will give you a one-day pass on the shop condition - looks like you have been too busy!;)

And, yes, I am impressed, too, with the pics - look pretty good!

Coring is the best way to go. For the number that you hole, you'll get better and better at success. Having access to half logs of ample size will give that practice and lead to some really nice nested bowls.

With all the ambrosia maple I've got, I really have to break out my corer. You have me itching to try it. Thanks for posting this!

Mike, go for it. There's a bit if a learning curve but starting with wet Maple is the best way to start. Dry Walnut........not do much.

This your first time using it? I have to give mine a try soon. Looks like things turned out well.

Dan, this is my first successful coring. I've got plenty of cored outer bowls and very shallow inners.
