I have a guy that wants to buy my Rigid jointer from me but the only thing I really want to replace it with is a G0490 with a spiral head. Is there any chance Grizzly has a black Friday sale?

Yes - they do.
There's only a few benchtop tools in it though.

The last time I hemmed and hawed waiting for a sale on the appropriate item, the price had climbed enough to where I will now probably never get what I really wanted. Just trying to help others by sharing my mistakes.

Damn, I am going to have to sell my current rigid jointer since I got a pretty good offer and I have been looking for a used G0490x for a year and a half and have yet to come across one. I guess I will just have to pony up for a new one.

Anyone else not overly impressed with the "deals" being displayed by Griz (and almost every other retailer out there)? Looks like 20% is about the top of the heap... I'd just call that a sale.

Yep - BF deals this year aren't what they have been in the past.
My wife and I were talking about skipping it this year.

We'll have to wait and see what the actual ads are - but - the ones that are posted already don't hold a lot of promise.

Noticed the same thing Dan. Not much to get overly excited about.

That's good advice.. Chances are, with the dollar getting weaker and real inflation going up, things are more likely to get more expensive.
If you have the cash in hand to buy a large tool you want now.. I would advise doing it, as oppposed to waiting months to catch a sale which would probably in a best case scenerio only save you 5-10% anyhow. Of course, the exception would be some vendors who seem to have twice annual sales which seem pretty predictable. Less risk there.

Flip through your older woodworking magazines and look at the ads. It is as if the recession never existed. I am sure demand is down across the board for large power tools but price does not follow. I am sure everyone is waiting for better pricing. I do not hold my breath on Black Friday - it is not the really good stuff that goes on sale, it is usually the entry level junk.
