Here is one of the latest square edged bowls I finished up. It is around 6" square finished with lacquer. I find trying something different like the square edged bowls keeps my turning fresh and motivated. The last picture is of an 8" silver maple vase I finished last week as well.

Jack, that silver maple vase kind of steals the show!! Great wood, and beautiful form. That said, the cherry square bowl is a really neat take on the theme - nice wood, and I like the rim treatment. You do some great work!!

Nice work, Jack. The "finger buster" looks well done and the proportions on the vase look just right.

Nice job on both Jack. The vase is great but what really grabbed my attention was the dark rim on the square bowl. I don't remember seeing that on a square one and it takes it up a notch!

Really like the bowl Jack. It's going to be a stunner when it starts to darken. The maple vase is beautiful as well.

Jack, the square bowl is great and I like how you've darkened the rim of the bowl. And I'm another that thinks that maple vase is a knock out.

That vase would look good even if I turned it! Both are really excellent!!

Fine job on both. That square edge bowl really floats my boat.

The bowl is similar to a Walnut bowl I turned a while back. Your outside edge is far better than mine. The vase really is stunning.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I will be sad when I run out of the silver maple that the vase is turned from, it has proved to be just outstanding in appearance as well as it's stability while drying. While I like turning the square edge pieces they aren't much fun to sand and finish so they will be very few of them come off my lathe. Even buffing the thing is difficult.
Thanks Again,
Jack Mincey

I like both of those, especially the square end bowl. I always have trouble getting my edges to come out in a uniform thickness all around. Nice job.

Jack - awesome job on the cherry square. I need to try one of these sometime. I really like the grain in the maple vessel. Most of our maple around here is plain grain.

Jack the winged bowl is beautiful, but I agree with John the Maple hollowform really is a show stopper!
