I guess this is a newer Harvey Peace saw with a Warranted Superior medalion? The blade is 20" and 9 ppi. The etching is: Harvey V. Peace, Vulcan (arm and hammer) Saw Works, Brooklin, N.Y., Spring Steel Warranted, ____?____ Ground. The metal piece under the handle has; Pat July 8 1883 and is silver colored. There is a slight bend in the middle of the blade otherwise the saw is in wonderful condition. About when would this saw have been made? And how hard would it be to straighten the blade? Oh and the saw only cost me $1 at a flea market so it it ain't worth anything I didn't get hurt too badly.

Great find. It is always cool to have the blade etch preserved. The metal reinforcement on the handle is interesting as well.

Regarding the straightening thing, some folks on this forum have different approaches, i.e. hammering, flexing, pouring hot water on the blade/plate. Since I have several old saws that have varying amounts of curvature, I'm interested in that aspect too. I'd like to learn more about the amount of curvature that is really problematic versus some slight amount that might not matter to using the saw.

Best wishes,
Jim

Here is the medallion on the saw. This indicates it was made by Disstion after they acquired Vulcan Saw Works. The eagle on the medallion is strange with a BIG head and it almost looks like the Kansas Jayhawk.

+1 on testing how the saw runs, as it is.

You could easily damage the sawplate in an effort to repair something cosmetic.
Sharpen it for a test drive, to see how things go first.
