Can anyone tell me what type of 240v plug I should expect on my new soon to be delivered Jet 1642-2 lathe?

I'd like to be able to put the appropriate outlet in before the lathe arrives so I can get right to making shavings when it does...

Thanks!

David - unless things have changed - your new lathe will not come with a plug! It is up to you. I used a P 620 J which is a twist lock plug. There are other options out there.

To save a trip back to the store, get the matching outlet, as well as the plug.

my 2 hp Grizzly [ a cousin to the Jet] uses a NEMA - 6 [220V] type plug.........I like Steve's idea of a twist-loc plug......the NEMA-6 type just plugs in.

When I first wired my Jet 1642-2, I used the same plug as came on my welder for easy intercahngeability. After a while it seemed that the plug weighed more than the lathe did, so I changed it to a NEMA 6-20, which has been more than sufficient for the last 5 years. It's not a twist lock, but is the same as a 220V heater that I have and works fine. Love this lathe !

If you are running the 220, make sure you have 2 x 220 outlets within reach of the lathe. A lot of the vacuum pumps use 220 also.

Thanks for the heads up Robert, I've already wired the shop and put 220 circuits around the whole thing in anticipation of this big-lathe day! I just didn't put outlets on any of the ones I wasn't using so am working on that now for the new tool... :D
