This is another piece of Northern Utah Box Elder burl. It has a few small limbs embedded in it and one pretty big one that kind of slashes through the side. It's 7.5" tall, 6.25" diameter at the widest point. At this point it just has some Antique Oil on it, still wet and not buffed.

A side view and view looking down on it.

That looks pretty cool, i like how the "top" is uneven.
Had to be alittle tough hollowing that out.

Curt - you have a great eye for form! I love how you can turn a natural edge HF... not many can even envision the possibilities in a chunk of wood and you seem to have a real knack for it!!

Excellent work! Beautiful wood and a very imaginative form! Looking forward to seeing what you create next!

Curt, this is reminiscent of the "splash" piece I think you did previously, and I love the effect!!! Great work on the form, assisted by some gorgeous wood! I agree with Steve, your forms are dead on perfect. Nice work!

That is absolutely stunning, Curt. The shape of the form is superb and the wood just puts it over the top. Thanks for showing us this beauty.

WOW
This is the result of three things coming together: technical skill, artistic vision and great piece of wood.

Dang that's a petty one Curt! Love the ne and most especially the branch cutting through the body.

I was thinking "Splash II" as soon as I opened the pictures! Great job as usual on this style Curt. I remember thinking how cool they are whenever you post one of these. I just need to try and remember/envision it when I have a piece of burl!

A#1 work.. I would have busted up the rim :-) :-( The vessel is super, but I could have done without that slash opening. Not much you could do about it! The wood so pretty & so well turned. I just find it IMHO distracting. What the heck do I know?

I too beleive it to be an incredible peice but still something just doesn't sit right about the top. I almost think that it would do more justice to the wood if it was colored, it might even out the whole thing. Still that being said it is an amazing peice of wood you got there.:D

I'd offer to take some of that trash wood off your hands, but it looks better than what I could do with it...hope you kept all your fingers!! That piece took some effort!
