I stopped by 3 auto parts stores today trying to find straight 90 wt. gear oil for my Rockwell 503 belt sander. None of them carried any and said the multi-grades 75w-90 or 80w-90 should work so long as it conformed to GL5 standard. I'm leaning toward "Castrol Hypoy C 80w-90".

I certainly don't want to put something in that's going to destroy my sander.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance for your advice or suggestions.

Joe

90 wt. oil is what they used to use in rear axles I think.
They may not anymore, it has been awhile since I worked on cars.
Try a full service gas station or someplace that does oil changes.
