With the discussion of boxes lately, I thought I would show some of mine. I got a couple of Dave's beaders from D-Way and decided to play with it. this is ash, stained black and then red.

I saw posting on multi-axis boxes and had to try my hand. the first is my first attempt and is mahogany, the second is the next attempt and is ash.

I wanted to try a multi-axis without the twist and bead it. That DID NOT work. the beader tore up the sharp edges, su I turned it down and did some burning on it.

Looks pretty neat. Multi-axis turning sounds like it could be complicated.

Thom, not sure what you were after, but I like what you got! Very neat track burnings!

Just wondering - could you bead the box on the first axis, then turn the others? Having never tried multi-axis, I have no idea.

John, the problem is that the beader wants to compress the grain on the leading edge, leaving it ragged. That was OK on the first side as the ragged part gets turned off on the next pass. Beading and turning in the right order MIGHT make it work, though there would surely be problems with the last face. The other problem is getting each pass completely aligned. I could easily bead one face, and that would be a neat feature, but I do not think I'm up to doing all three - my eyes are not that good any more.

Of course on the twisted version, you can not follow the cut for the lid.

Nice boxes, Thom. I like the multi-axis ash box and the tracks are a neat design oportunity.

Blame the multi-axis stuff on Kathy Marshall and especially Jason Clark. It was their posts that got me interested.

Nice boxes Thom! The dyed and beaded ash looks neat though the off center one is cool too.

Cool stuff, Thom! Love the beads... I hope you figure out how to incorporate them into your multi axis stuff!

Nice boxes Thom! The beading looks great and I'm happy to share the blame for the multi axis!
