Spalted Red Mallee????

One of the pieces of Red Mallee that I am turning had a very unusual white mottling in it. I originally thought it was just on the surface but the more I turned it did not go away. Probably some deadly mold and I only have a short time to live!!! Well at least the wife could retire then. I have never seen this in Red Mallee.

I think that is a form of dry rot normally throw away stuff. Hope not but.....

Haven't seen that before, but I'd guess rotten red mallee is still harder than most woods!

I had a piece like that a couple of years ago. A friend of mine from Australia told me it was rot. Thankfully it wasn't bad and I got it turned.
