I've been away for a while....both in the hospital with some issues and then out to Arizona to visit my daughter (also got a quick visit with Kathy Marshall). I used one of her Thompson bowl gouges during the short visit and decided that I just had to give one a try. I got a 5/8 gouge with the new 15V steel. I also got one of his new Aluminum 20" handles that is weighted with buckshot. It's pictured next to my Sorby 3/8" gouge with a 16" homemade handle.

Anyway, since returning, I've been working a little up in the shop. I had turned a second 16" diameter Ambrosia Mable bowl and had a bad catch. Ended up breaking my wood tool rest so I decided that I would have to break down and build a metal one. Here is the result of a days work. I made a curved tool rest too so i could get closer inside and outside of bowls. So far, it's working great.
