I have made 60-70 frame/panel assemblies over the past couple months. I work out of my garage shop so I made them in 3 sets. I had a few times to set up my rail/stile bits and thought I'd share a method I stumbled upon to set up the bits. (Maybe this is already commonly used?) Set up the cope (end grain) bit as usual. Then when it is time to set up the stick cutting bit I usually get it close and use trial & error to tune it in for a good fit with the coped piece. Usually I use a scrap piece to set up the cope cut and do an end grain cut like I would on the real piece. One time I didn't have a squared off piece so I cut the cope on the long grain side (as if it were the stick bit). Then when I set up the stick bit I re-cut over the cope cut and adjusted till the mis-match was gone.
