How does this DC work?

I finally found the first DC to deposit dust into the trashcan which is sealed in a wood box.

I don't think the wood box is sealed - there must be an exhaust port on it (exhausting outside). I'd bet that about 40% of the dust gets into the can, 40% ends up on the floor next to the can, and 20% gets blown outside.

you forgot that a good part of it will coat the blower housing and everything there. I'd consider that a bad idea (at best).

It might be a good idea with a cyclone, though - if you put a trash can in a sealed box, the dust could drop out the bottom of the cyclone into the can. But, the box would need to be very well sealed.
