I might be able to pick up a Saw Stop CB 53230 table saw, in like new condition, for about $1,000
I assume that's a good deal?
It's a bidding situation, so it may go higher.
At what price do you folks feel it's no longer a "steal" ?

I believe this is the 5hp 3phase ICS. Do you have 3 phase available ?

At $1000 it would be a steal. I could see it going for 2x or 3x that amount though, if it is an auction. If it is 3 phase it definitely takes away some of the marketability.......

Phil, if this saw is an ICS (the top of the line for SawStop) is it a very good deal even if you have to replace the motor. A new Baldor 3 - 5 hp motor costs about 500 new (you can do even better with a rebuilt motor). I have an ICS (3 hp) and it is a fantastic saw (even though it does not have a Baldor motor).

The cost of changing the motor and the switch/electrical compartment to single phase is around $400-$500 (depending on whether you want 3hp or 5hp).
I would say $1500 and below (considering that you have to drop another $4-500) is a very good deal. Above that might just be a good deal but not steal.

I would check with SawStop first and make sure the conversion will be an easy one. I have a 5HP ICS and it's terrific. The electronics on the saw are quite complicated and interconnected, so changing out a motor as well as changing to a single phase unit may be more involved than in the old days, when you just bought a motor and changed the starter.

Yes, it is 5hp, and 3 phase.
I'm seriously leaning towards installing a 3 phase panel in my shop, just so I can use machines like this.
Would this be a better saw to get, then a used Powermatic 66 ?
The bank ordered bidding on this Sawstop ends around the 15th, and for now, it's sitting at $750.

Even without the safety features, after owning a SawStop, I wouldn't even give a Powerematic 66 a second thought for a whole list of reasons. And if you can add three phase power to your shop at a reasonable expense, do it.
