This vase started warping while I was hollowing so it turned out heavier than I would prefer. It was made from the heart of a crotch section and has some interesting grain patterns and colors. It is 15-1/2" tall X 11-1/2" diameter. Finish is WOP.
Comments and Critiques welcome.

love the elm, large hf, what do you turn on and what do you hollow with, 11 1/2 wide is large amount of torque, 15 1/2 deep and my teeth hurt

Man that's purdy! I love the look of finished Elm. I dont, however, enjoy the stink and warping involved!

I turn on a fairly large home made lathe, plenty of torque. I use a home made Jamieson style hollowing system (1-1/4" bar). It works OK to about 16" deep with small cuts.

Really beautiful vessel, Dennis. Pretty impressive size as well. You may consider tucking or rolling the very bottom just a bit. A little tuck can do wonders in creating overall lift in the piece. This will sometimes lighten the piece a bit visually.

Thanks for sharing.

Dennis the grain in that piece is beautiful! I like the shape as well but the color contrast is the real eye candy in my opinion. Great job and thanks for showing.
