Nice. I found out that a mag type of flash light, which allows you to focus the beam works best for seeing the bottom rather than the diffused beam type you use. Maybe it is how my eyes focus.

I really need to do more hollow forms.

Very nice video Joe. Very good shots of the gouge in action. My only critisism is that you spent no time explaining the hollowing tools that you were using. That's something that just about every viewer wants wants to see and hear.

I watched a short video recently of a very well known turner hollowing a vessel. He spent a lot of time with a tool inside the vessel. We never saw what the tool looked like or any explanation on how it worked. Not good.

Reed, I have the best luck with the flashlight you describe, focusing the beam helps create shadows of any hills and valleys caused by tool marks. A diffused beam (at least for me) makes those differences less readily apparent.
