I was out in the shop yesterday and decided to take a little lunch break. When I left the shop, I found out right away that the postal carrier had dropped off a package :D. It was a box of wood from Tom Winship!

I had sent Tom a box of wood a couple weeks ago, and he reciprocated in kind. There was some Live Oak, a couple pieces of Water Oak, a piece of Elm and a piece of Texas Mesquite. The Texas Mesquite is way different than what we have here. It's a nice red color and looks like it might have a little curl to it. I'll have to think of something special to turn from it!

This morning I grabbed one of the pieces of Water Oak and turned a bowl. Didn't measure, but it's about 5" x 2", finished with DO and General Finishes WTF. Turns like, well, Oak, but it's got some nice color to it and some character with the worm holes.

Thanks Tom!

Great wood exchange, and I like the looks of the water oak!

Kathy, your water oak bowl puts mine "in the shade". How did you like the weight of the live oak? It is really heavy even after it dries.
Enjoy!

Beautiful wood and excellent form. Can't beat mother nature's designs.
