It seems that everyone is really sold on the Jet Mini. What makes this lathe more desirable than the Grizzly which is about $70 cheaper?

Haven't turned on the Grizzly, but the Jet Mini has done everything I've tried without a whimper, so I don't believe you can go wrong. I know $70.00 isn't "Chump Change", but I would go with the Jet.

There is nothing wrong with the little Grizzly. It's just a much smaller lathe.

1/4hp vs 1/2hp
3/4"-16tpi vs 1"-8tpi
6" swing vs 10" swing
#1MT vs #2MT
Universal motor va Induction motor

To be honest, anyone of those things is worth $70. With all of those differences the $70 difference is a bargin.

Good Luck with your choice

The Jet Mini is a well balanced, well designed, works very, very, well and has been relatively problem free. There are a lot of folk's who really give the small Jet a workout and it comes through with flying colors. As for Grizzly, it may be good but it's probably not better! In the greater scheme of things why go for the $70 price difference? You'll spend much more on turning tools and a decent sharpening setup !

You will find alot more accessories available for a #2 morse taper than a #1. The fit and finish on the Jet is also very nice.
