Ok, I know this topic's been done a million times, but I wanted to get an updated, consolidated opinion:

I hate my bearings. They scream, don't guide the blade well, and the lower thumb screw on the thrust bearing loosens up during use.

So, What should I replace them with?

- Carter? There are so many versions to choose from - which one?
- Grizzly cool blocks guide?
- Better rolling bearings?
- New saw altogether?

Those who have done this upgrade, please share yr experience.

I went with the new Grizzly parts that allowed Cool Blocks to be installed on my 555X. For me -- with a Carter Ratchet Rod, King Coil, and Wood Slicer, 1/2", 3TPI, that gave me all the saw I wanted/needed.

I think it's probably a worthwhile thing to try an upgrade like this, but ... the notion of whether you have enough saw should probably be addressed first.

If you're getting 95% of your BS needs met with the 555, but just feel like a tweak, well ... that's one thing.

But if you're a far cry away from being able to get from your BS ... what you think you need it to do ... you can't really move up a whole level in capability via parts-bin upgrades.

That's the harder question to answer, I suspect.

Good luck !
