View Full Version : 10" Maple Ogee Bowl with design change (or it would have been a funnel)

When I roughed out this maple bowl I had too much curve in the side wall (ogee curve). As I was turning the inside I discovered that I was about to make a funnel if I didn't keep a raised foot on the bowl. I left the tenon and beaded the foot. The curve on the inside transcends into the foot. I didn't want the foot but I had to accept it, or waste the bowl blank. I am not real pleased with the curve into the foot (too tight), but the beads may distract from the overall form. Nice piece of wood with a few worm holes and a little figure from a branch. Finish is Oil and Ren Wax. Thumbs up or down.

Nice piece. I really like the rim treatment, not too sure about the beads at the foot, but I think an ogee form works well with a foot. It helps lift a form that otherwise could easily be too squat.

Very nice! Had an art teacher in h.s. that referred to the experience like you had here as "happy accidents" and emphasized how things that don't go right force us to innovate and makes for good art. Two thumbs up!

Great wood, Bob, and well executed. I agree on the bottom part of the ogee, but well worth it for a save!

Well I think it's a fine bowl and I like the foot. Being "bowl challenged" I would love to produce one that nice...

Nice job Bob! We can't get all of 'em perfect. Foot comments and thoughts are valid. I do think that the rim treatment counters it well.
