I now own a 20 year old 10" Craftsman that just developed problems. Could fix it but been wanting to replace anyway. With Christmas deals around the corner I need to decide what I want.

I have always like the Ridgid 12" sliding saw. mainly because of the huge table. More saw than I need but HEY!, you know. Also price at $499 not much more than a 10" slider.

Also looked at a 10" slider but not much difference in price.

To be honest I could get by with a standard 12" saw.

Reviews are not much help. Get the feeling most is from people who don't know how to use a saw. They give a bad rating because it did not cut square out of the box???? I guess I am looking for what woodworkers are using. I do not make a living with my saw. I have built two decks in 20 years. never have done crown molding. So it's just general shop use.

What do you like 10 or 12" slider. 10 or 12" non-slider and what brand? I am leaning towards Home Depot offerings because I have $100 in gift cards to use up. But if a saw at another store is better, that would trump using gift cards.

UPDATE---- I have been reading and reading and now this saw is at the top of my list.Dewalt DW716

Seems to get great reviews (past sawmill creek posts and on-line), good price (amazon cheaper than HD) good cut cap. etc.... Any thoughts?

Hi Dave,

I have a 10" Hatachi Slider w lazer that I like. It cuts well. Had it for almost 4 years now. Use it between a pair of beismeyer miter saw tables.

If I had to replace it though I think I would take a hard look at the Kapex for the better dust collection.

Good luck with it.

Look carefully at the Bosch Glide. It's very accurate and has a small footprint.

+1 on the Bosch Glide - I have one and love it. As Robert said, much smaller footprint than a normal slider and yet has a cross cut cabability of 16".

Sliders have a big advantage over non-sliders because you are not plunge cutting into wood. If you are cutting hardwoods, you will find a slider is the only way to go.

I don't have one yet, but any day now I know I will have a weak moment. I work with a lot of AZEK and am tired of cleaning slides.

I work with a lot of AZEK and am tired of cleaning slides.
Question?
Does AZEK make little gritty bits of dust like that horrid plastic interior trim does?
In a weak (stupid) moment I used some of that trim & the dust got under the table on my 10" Ryobi CMS.
Now the saw sounds & feels like it's turning on gravel.

Dave,
YMMV - but - I don't really feel a need for a slider.
I went with a 10" DeWalt single bevel non-slider for the shop. IIRC, it's the DW713.
Between the sled for the TS and the track saw, the 10" non slider does everything I need to do.
The only regret I have is a small one. I somewhat regret not getting a dual bevel.

My job site saws are all lower end ones. (Ryobi, Delta and Workforce (or Taskforce or whatever - force.).
All of them work fine and are dead on, but, the cheapies require a lot more attention to keep them dead on.
It's a trade off there between having an expensive saw grow legs and walk away from a job site - or - taking some extra time to dial in the saws.

Go to CPO Bosch http://www.cpotools.com/factory-reconditioned-bosch-gcm12sd-rt-12-in-dual-bevel-glide-miter-saw/bshrgcm12sd-rt,default,pd.html?cgid= $6.99 shipping with a $610.48 price and after talking to the guys at CPO they said for warranty issues you get better service if you purchase from their site or call your order in. 2 years ago I purchased a Bosch 4410L scms from them and the were great to deal with. I didn't want the 12" because I don't normally cut stuff big enough to warrant the added expense of 12" blade assorment, 10" works for me, and the glide was still quite high $$ then as well.
