This is a multi-media kind of project with some carving for the numbers and using planes, chisels and spoke shaves for the sign board. Some electrons got introduced to the project with the band saw for cutting the shape. Then again more electrons were sacrificed at the drill press using a forestner bit to cut the mortices in the blocks of alder used to hang the sign.

Since the forecast was for today to be the least likely to have rain, the installation of the sign was planned for and actually done today.

This is what our drive looked like at the road before installing a new sign…

Really not very clearly marked for visitors or deliveries. There was a sign with two addresses that dates from before #415 was built. It is behind the 415 sign. Only one address remains and it isn't very clear.

Here is what it looks like with the new sign installed…

The brackets to hold it up were made from some fire wood. I cut mortices in them to hold the tongues at the sides of the sign. They were mounted to the posts using screws. The screw holes were recessed so dowels could be used to cover the holes. The brackets are alder and finished with boiled linseed oil and turpintine. It was brushed on and allowed to soak in with more going on as it soaked in. This dried over night and then a coat of tung oil was added again on the heavy side allowing it to soak in. The dowels were given a dose of BLO/Turp mix after they were installed.

Here is a close up of the sign and hanger…

There are hooks at the bottom so we or the neighbors can hang signs at the bottom for yard sales or eggs for sale.

Nothing fancy, but better than what we had.

I am hoping one of the neighbors doesn't like it. Then it will be on them to come up with the next one.
