Double-dog dare you to do this.

Of course, the cost of the equipment is fairly modest.

Great video. I once saw a video of an East Indian sitting on the stones outside a building. He made a whole sitar just sitting there, with a few tools and a similar lathe.

As always ,it's the craftsman not the tool.

Well now I feel lame for every excuse I've used for not turning my own handles when I've wanted to replace one.

heck I wish I had as good control with a skew.

What can we learn about sharpening from this guy? Think he is keeping a WorkSharp 3000 around the corner? This is somewhat relevant to me because I have a treadle lathe. It looks like a very slight primary bevel, maybe 10 deg? Then there appears to be a secondary bevel of maybe 20? I have an extra skew that I could try that on, but would probably need a belt sander to get that primary bevel.

Wow, this guy has more turning talent in his little toe than I do in my whole body! :) Impressive!

Just takes good eye - foot coordination.

Yeah, that was the video I had in mind when I built Al Breed's carving vise and used it as a bow lathe: http://www.closegrain.com/2011/05/building-al-breed-carving-vise-and-bow.html. I'll just say I still need a lot of practice before I show any results made with it! Haven't tried it with my toes yet.

That's a heck of a tool rest. Also, notice he has all his fingers and toes!

But I bet he has some awesome toe-jam at the end of the day!

very cool video. and incredibly talented turner. Did you see all the other stuff around him he looks to have made? Love a down and dirty craftsman like this, just awesome.

If he ever used green oak, the sawdust between his toes would smell like.....feet!
