I do both metal working & woodworking in my shop. I have been looking for a good quality machinist vice to replace a POJ Chinese vise that I had. I found this Made in America, Columbian on CL for $100. I may have paid too much for it but these are a rare find in Albuquerque and it is a nice vise! I made the oak base to cover up the POJ’s old mounting holes.

I paid about half that much for a much older, much rougher, much smaller vise without the nice copper jaw covers. I think you did great!

Don't know much about vises...but it looks almost brand new and made in the U.S.A...yeah, good find :)

I got lucky on my machinists vise. Free, and made in America. But it is nowhere near that nice... Mine looked like the dumpster refugee it was when I got it, yours, looks brand spanking new.... I would say you got a very nice score there!

I'd be mighty proud if I was you. Really nice shape! I have a vise gloat myself from last weekend. I got a Reed #32. Not in nice shape like yours but it's close to 100 years old. 25.00 was my offer and I now own it.210552

Thanks guys. I don’t know if the guy repainted it, if he did, he did a good job. There are some dings on the anvil section so I know it is not new. I looked around for a price on the 4” copper jaws, they go for 40-50 bucks so I think I made out alright.
Paul, the bench top is maple.
Mark, that Reed #32 is cool looking!

That is a heck of a deal! A $100.00 for a cast steel Columbian welding vise in that shape........YOU SUCK!
