Charlie,
If that one is not good for you... I have had VERY good luck with Sharon at Best Wood Tools. They have made me several rests. Very solid and heavy. I think it would be under budget. 931-788-0429. They are very accomidating.

thanks John, that's my budget, will use on single outboard cuts

thanks Michael, i looked at their online tool rest, could not find one with pen, maybe they would do special order, but probably not at penn state's price

Charlie,
You are right.. I am sure. There price will be higher but they make their rests beefy. I have the modular ones that are made of 1' stock. No vibration but more money. See how thick Penns is, and check with them on how much more. It might be worth the bucks not to have the vibration.

Michael, vibration is a concern, the whole point of buying the tool rest with pen is to get a good crisp cut on my single cuts on my Kokopelli outboard series. the penn state tool rest you can position the tool rest in two different positions. one out on the wing of the tool rest, and the other just off center. i will most likely use the off center placement, as i can move the outboard tool rest stand to where i need it. thanks for your attention.

I checked the one on Penn State's site. It also is one inch stock. Sounds like a deal if made decently!!
Good Luck.

Am I missing something? Isn't it called a "Pin" and a "Pinned" tool rest?

I had a friend make these for me on Friday. Cost $0.00. They are not pinned but they are 1 inch and made for my Jet 1642. Three sizes,6",8",and 10". He painted them black but I will sand that off. The cross bar is offset to the front of the post.
