Felt like finish turning a pretty piece of wood last week so went browsing through my boxes. Roughed this out in March 2010. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?138360-Rotted-Cherry-Burl&highlight= I was thinking bowl in the beginning then thought the top was too pretty to turn away. It ended up as a HF but with a large opening since I had to get rid of the faceplate screw holes. Added the holly ring and was thinking a small finial on top but the wife made a comment about no more white holly so the hole got filled. After it was done she asked me if I was going to give it to her sister and brotherinlaw(came from their property) for their 50th coming up in January. Apparently it is already spoken for.;):) Just wish she had told me that before I carved up the bottom of the lid. I will have to write/burn small!
9 ¾ x 5 ¾ x 3/16. Super thin is highly overrated…especially when I am trying to do it on a pretty piece of wood.:eek::)
Finished with AO.
Sorry about the spots on the photo's and varying shades. The sun was in and out while I was taking pictures and I keep putting off sending my camera body away to get cleaned.

Kind of a different shape and I’m interested in hearing what you think of it. Good, bad or indifferent.

Sweet piece Baxter! I certainly see why the wife wanted to offer this as a 50th anniv. gift. Glad it is not a bowl too...just gorgeous.

That piece is awesome Baxter. I love the form and the holly ring is a stark contrast to the darker figured wood.

Baxter, this is a great piece! Functional, yet very "artsy", as well. I like the form, the holly lid/collar (with matching grain!) is perfect. Nice replication of the form in the knob.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it! Glad the shape passes inspection, though the wood may have biased your judgement.:)
........ Functional, yet very "artsy", as well........... Not sure about that one! Had to go back out to the shop and see if I could stick my hand in. An oreo would fit but that wouldn't do me any good.;):)
