I found a AMT 4" jointer for sale. It looks like model 149.21871 pictured here: http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=8214

The owner said he bought it around 1980 new. He put a piece of teak through the jointer and he said it screwed up the original knives. He replaced them with a HSS set and used it to make small projects. He said it has been gathering dust for about 10 years. It does not include a motor. He wants $15 for the jointer.

I am looking for a small jointer to make boxes and small projects. What do you guys think. If it is a decent jointer I don't think I can go wrong for $15.

for $15.

For 15 dollars, why not? If you don't like it you could donate or give it away. Plus, it would probably do a nice job of flattning small board.

That is a pretty slick looking mini jointer!

I have an older Dunlop version I bought for $40 when I first started setting up my home shop, and it works well! With sharp knives it will joint small stock for sure, and it takes up very little space.

Thanks guys. I'm going to head over there this afternoon to pick it up.

For $15 go for it. AMT was kinda a Harbor Freight back in the day. They sold their tools without motors.

I don't see why you even asked. For $15 bucks, you can't go wrong, even if it doesn't work.
Post a pic when you get it home.

They sold their tools without motors.
As did Delta, Craftsman, Walker Turner, Duro, etc.

They also sold motors. I inherited an old Craftsman tilting-table saw from my father-in-law. When the motor went, I got a new one from AMT. It worked all right.

I bought the jointer. It is in great shape. The bearings are tight and the knives aren't nicked. After a little cleaning up I think I'll have a nice little jointer.

I won't be able to use it though. We are selling our house and moving soon. When I set up my new shop I'll be able to use the jointer.
