This past weekend I finally had a chance to try the new smaller Rotex. I bought it to use in shaping wood and as a complement to the 150/3 Sander. I used it to shape a handle for my Japanese saws. It really seems perfect. There was no dust and withe 50 grit and the aggressive mode it shapes wonderfully. It fits nicely in my hand . It does tend to "walk" in the aggresive mode a little, but it is manageable. Once I had the general shape...I used a Nicolson #50 to dress it a little. Then I switched to the finer mode on the Rotex and went up to 100 grit. At that point I switched to the 150/3 Fine sander with 100 grit and it was a great transition. I moved up to to 150 and finally 220. Then I used the 3 M pads by hand. The pair really work well together. They are great sanders and seem to be really worth the price considering the flexibility . Just as it is a joy to use a fine hand plane , the Rotex 125 is a well designed tool that really performs.

Thanks for the Report Mark. Since I already have the Rotex 150 sander (along with two other Festool sanders), I can't see myself ever justifying the 125, but it is still good the hear about it.

That begs the question: Does anybody have both Roti and, if so, why?

I don't, but this thread did inspire me to go take a looke at them. They both look like great sanders! Thanks for the report Mark!

I looked at them the other day for the first time at Woodcraft-- Pricey-- I guess I will have to stick with my 4 PC ROS for now.

I had my eye on the little Rotex 125, but it takes 5" paper and my 150/3 takes 6". I just couldn't see stocking both size papers in all the various grits I use, so I picked up the larger 6" Rotex 150. I often have both sanders running, me with the Rotex, LOML with the 150/3.

One can NEVER have enough Festool tools...:D

Marty,

I have the 150/3 sander also. Since the Rotex 125 is a more aggresive sander , I only selected the 50, 80, 100 grits. These I did not have for the 150/3, so it wasn't a conflict. With the inro price...it made sense.
