4.5" x 10" Parallam beam with dyed recessed wave.

If you've never turned a parallam beam, I don't recommend it.

I mixed up three different batches of epoxy with different shades of filler to fill all the small holes where the wood chips out. Multiple coats of sanding sealer and lacquer to eventually get the whole thing smooth.

May have been a lot more work than expected but well worth it in my view! Super job.

Well John, the extra effort paid off. Glad to see you did not abandon the idea - very interesting and I love the carved wave.

Love all of your wave bowls, John, and this is no exception. Don't know how you do them, but they look great!

John,
I'm sure it was a pain. But the result is stunning.

wow, talk about a silk purse.............

great piece, and I'm sure way harder to do than "real wood". I'll bet that thing was really fuzzy.............

Excellent travail de récupération

Good things come to those that persevere, John, and you hit the mark again!!! This is such a wonderful contrast - well worth all of the effort. I bet you had to sharpen the ol' gouges often, too. Having worked a little with that stuff in construction, I can only imagine turning it. Better you than me!

John, I'm going to have to respectfully ask you to stop turning. Every time you post, I throw all my tools in the trash and don't go to the shop for a month. ;^} Just kidding - amazing work, as always!

I turned some parallam a while back. If I got a tool within an inch of that stuff it trembled in fear and lost its edge! I had so many pieces fly out at my arm that by the time I was done, I had a rash on my arm. I love the look of the end grain, but I too do not recommend it. You appear to have won this battle! It must have taken a lot of perseverance to get all the voids filled and the bowl smooth.

John that is AWESOME!

The extra effort paid off because the multi-direction of the beam really works well with your wave design. Love it!

Gorgeous piece, great job! I want to try this stuff some day, but don't plan to make a habit of it.

Another beauty, John! That stuff must be miserable to work with, but in your hands, it seems to be worth the effort!

John. Sorry to be an idiot. But how do you do that? Is it jam chucked off center? Eccentric chuck?

John that is a beauty. Contrasting woods just make it.
