Butcher Block Countertop

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are redoing our computer workstation and have decided that we want to go simple by using Butcher Block as a table top.

The table top would be about 25" x 60" to 72". Hard Maple preferred.

We are looking for a source in the Central NJ area.

Googling for a supplier so far has not been a success.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Ikea has pretty good prices on butcherblock. They offer 73"x25"x1.5" slabs in birch, beech, or white oak for $129.

there is a place near plainfield, nj that carry butcherblock. roland or noland something was the name of the company. they mainly do wholesale accounts, but usually they will do cash accounts as well. if you can't find it call dino at eurekazone (908.222.7557) they are right around the corner from the place.

I just get one from local Woodcraft.They are on sale now.1.75 x 24 x 60 is $ 175. 84" is $ 210.

Boos butcher blocks are nice, but pretty pricey. I just did a kitchen with BB counter tops and got them here: http://www.hardwood-lumber.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10_11_17 I believe they are out of Ohio, and even with shipping they were cheaper than Boos tops. The tops from hardwood-lumber come unfinished and in need of a final sanding. I also put a 1/8" round-over on the edge, then finished with Waterlox.

The Ikea 1.5" tops are non-existent at both Ikea locations in NJ. I have had no luck ordering them online either. I have a 1" Ikea top in my shop now that is smiling at me it has warped so bad. Its hard to pass up at $59, but they are worth what you pay for them.

Woodcraft and Grizzly both sell laminated maple butcherblock tops. I believe both get them from Bally Block (http://mapleblock.com/) in Bally, PA. Bally doesn't sell retail but does sell some really nice seconds to anyone. You gotta pick them up at the factory. Their stock of seconds is always changing, but you can call to find out what they have in stock and they will hold it for you- sales support the employee rec fund. I got a 30" X 72' X 3" maple top for my WW bench from them for $75!! They even ran it through the widebelt sander for me for free. They also sold me 8/4 maple for aprons and endcaps at a good price:
