I recently started turning peppemills, I have some spalted maple sitting around and I was wonder if I could use it for a peppemill.

Absolutely, but only if you post photos of the finished products!

Ryan,
Absolutely not. Spalted maple would make a horrible peppermill. Just send it to me. I'll burn it for ya.
:)
Maple would be beautiful on a peppermill. Maybe try dyeing it? Let us see when you're done.

Maybe I'm too cautious but I would only use it if it is kilned to kill the fungus. Even with a finish on, if it's air-dried, I'd be too worried it might somehow induce an allergic reaction in someone. Hmm. I wonder if DNA kills the fungus...

Go ahead and give it a go. I have made maybe 20 to 30 out of spalted maple and other spalted woods with no problems.

absolutely. Put it in the microwave & nuke the bugs..then make sure it's dry and seal the innards with shellac...you are good to go
