Turned these last night and tonight from some green ash.
The blue bowl is 10 1/2" x 3" from a crotch piece, dyed with royal blue Rit dye, applied fairly heavy then sanded back. The inside has a light coat of BLO and just some sanding sealer on the outside so far.
The red bowl is 5" x 3" dyed with red Rit dye, applied heavier on the beads, sanded back on the sides, a very light coat of BLO on the inside and a coat of sanding sealer so far. I used my smallest Sorby beading tool for the beads and took the advice from another post to rotate the tool from side to side (worked much better). I used my Decorating Elf on the bottom and was surprised at how well it did since the wood is green (on other green wood there was quite a bit of tear out/chipping).

I like the blue, particularly how the grain pops in and out with such a light/thin layer of dye.

I'm not sold on the beads, though... but that's my personal preference, smooth lines.

Very nice Kathy, that blue bowl does have a very nice grain.

Very nice Kathy, and you knocked off early last nite, it looks like.
I like the blue also.

Kathy, if you are going to continue down the dye trail, I hope you will consider using more lightfast color materials like TransTints(metallic acids) or pigments like acrylic paints or drawing inks.

Both are nice bowls but I do like the blue.

Nice looking work! I like the dyed exterior with the natural inside.
