Both the photo and the bowl go back a lot of years. This bowl came from a whole log of the best curly maple I've ever had. Wish I had more like it. It's about 11 inches in dia. Some would say that the 5 beads could detract from the highly figured wood, but I think that they only enhance the figure. Opinions?

This is a good example of a dovetail foot. I think it works well on this piece. What do you think?

C/C welcome.

Wow - now that is some super curly maple!! I like the beads! They give the bowl an almost classical look! Also like the foot and how it elevates the bowl like it is showing it off! Sure is a beauty!

That is truly some awsome curl, Wally! And the beading and the foot definitely go well with this piece.

Wally, I don't like curly maple - I LOVE CURLY MAPLE!!!! And, that is awesome! The dovetail foot picks up very well as a mirror of the curvature of the bowl. I like the beads, but would probably like it as well without them. It does add an element of texture and it certainly picks up on the curl.

Yeah, what Steve Schlumpf said - Wow! I relly like this piece, the beads add to the form, not detract imho. Love it to bits!

I second what everyone else said. That sure is some curly maple.... doesn't seem that they make it like that anymore.

Yea, the curl is outstanding. But I like the execution of the turning much better. Not a fan of footed bowls but this gives me reason to reconsider that thought.

Wow, the bowls shape and wood are really nice. I hope you have more of that wood hidden away...

Beautiful wood. That has to be in the 99 percentile. Beads are fine, but it takes a while to get over all the curl. Great classic design and well executed.

Fantastic! It looks great with beads and a foot, but I'd probably like it just as well without either. That's the kind of bowl I want to turn in my hands in the sunlight!

Vary Nice looking , I wish I could get my hands on some curly maple like that..!
The last time I shoped for curly maple at the saw mill I had to go thru alot of lumber trying to get halfway goodlooking stuff, but that maple really explodes!!!

Wally, I keep wondering if you cored that piece in some way. Maybe even a small cone?
