I've only looked at the teeny-tiny picture, and I have way too many hand braces already, but this might be useful if you need one:

If you aren't familiar with American Science & Surplus, it's of no help to any attempts to limit your time on the web...

I like the hand sketch of the item - about 1" offset between the chuck and the top pad, that wouldn't be awkward to use! :p

(Thankfully, the photo shows that is not the case...)

I wish I had never read this post. I wonder if the "GREAT BLADE" would be good for marking?

I saw these braces at AS&S the other day, but didn't know about their supposed origin. They might be unused, but they looked to be in about the same condition as most flea-market braces. $12.50 might be over-paying. The chucks were unusual in that instead of knurling, they had hex flats like a big nut. I guess the French are a little different.
