Polyhedrons and Spheres in Wood - by Steve Garrison

This item is an Ebook (pdf file) describing a method developed by Steve Garrison for making segmented turnings based upon various three-dimensional geometric shapes. The pieces are glued together to make a hollow ball instead of a ring. The parts are cut and beveled on a table saw using an easy to build jig. Precise angles are required and Steve has figured out an extremely precise and low-cost way to make angle adjustments that eliminates a lot of trial and error frustration which can also be utilized for other machines when a precise angle is needed. The setup on the saw is simplified by only requiring one angle instead of two. Patterns are included for ten different polyhedrons along with formulas (simple ratios) that can be used with or without a spreadsheet such as Excel or Google Documents for scaling the dimensions of the parts according to the diameter you want. You can also make a bowl instead of a sphere using fewer parts. The parts can be rounded individually using a jig such as the one in his video bypassing the need for a lathe, or they can be assembled and turned on a lathe – your choice.
More information is available on Steve’s web site, or his “Spirals by Steve” Facebook page. If you would like to buy a copy he offers a $4 discount using the discount code, “sawmill” for a total of $25.99. If you buy a copy before the drawing and then win, you will get a refund.

The segmented shapes that this is capable of producing is not limited to just spheres. My latest model was made of 1/4" plywood and measures 25" tall by 10" diameter. It was designed with "Great Stella" program which gives all the needed measurements.
