Happened across several 4" - 6" diameter trunks (+3' long lengths) that didn't survive the drought. Has anyone had any experience turning this wood?

Thanks

I got some a few years back, or at least, that is what they called it. Smooth even grain, pinkish in color. You may want to take care with the logs. I have found that a dead standing tree will really crack fast once you open it up. If you cut out blanks, turn right away, or seal, or stretch wrap the outside.

Reed,

Thanks. The bush/tree was dead standing before it was cut down. This may be one of rare incidents where the wood doesn't need sealing. As you drive around Houston you see plenty of tress dead with their leave brown and still on trees. Estimates are that 40% of trees in the area are dead, which is even worse in other places of the state. Broad leafed trees, such as oaks, have taken it far worse as result of shallow surface root system. Firewood will be cheap this year and there won't be any need to let it dry out or season before using it...
