I've worked on this for a few days now with some help from a fellow creeker Ed Morgano. He came over yesterday and worked on it a while before we decided to load up some wood. I worked on it alot today and it's finally roughed out. The spalting is really intense but it's not punky. It's all end grain since it wasn't very thick and I can tell from this experience that I like side grain "ALOT" better. It's in DNA right now and I hope to finish it soon. C&C Welcome

Wow, what a spectacular piece of wood. Almost looks like it's dripping down the side. Can't wait to see the finished piece

A lot going on with that wood. Should finish out nicely.

That's a beauty! If you haven't already, you might try wetting the wood for finishing cuts... It helps me with tearout at times.

Donny,
Very nice. I love the spalting on this one. It's nice to know that I helped save this piece of wood from the burn pot.....:D and oh, thanks again for all the wood.

Donny, now thats going to make a pretty bowl when its done. I've used DNA in the past with good results as well.

I LOVE Spalted wood! This bowl is amazing, and like the other's, can't wait to see what it becomes when you finish it. I have lots of silver birch, Sycamore, and some Beech spalting at the moment, just drying a few blanks out to see what they're like. I found out by accident that one lot of Silver Birch spalted - it was growing, then went up in a fire, was put out by the fire brigade, and left for 12 months... Now (hopefully) I can reclaim some of the wood and "re-turn" it to the previous owner... Just not sure what to make it into (He's a professional carpenter for a living).

Great looking wood. By the way, what is the Progressive ad doing in the thread?
