Here is the finished urn I posted ealier in a thread started by Curtis Roche. The stopper has treads made from plumbing fittings. I'm not entirely happy with the cross on the top, a small piece of wood chipped out of the hole edge on the upright portion, I may give it another try.
15" tall and 8" in dia. Cherry, maple and bloodwood. Finish is Tung oil. Comments and critiques welcome.

Really like the shape and the "cross plugs" that rap the middle.
What did you use to drill the holes in the center segments (for the "cross plugs") ?
As far as the "plugs" go... what did you do... router four grooves in a "dowel" then glue four more dowels to that, then turn and cut-off to size ? i like them alot :)

There is a lot of work in that and it looks really good.

What a great piece. One can sure tell a lot of thought and planning went into its creation.

Thank you all for the kind words. Joe the feature ring is made by drilling holes and then filling the holes with plugs made with these (http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=42292&cat=1,180,42288&ap=1) plug cutters as shown in the attached pic.

Thanks alot for the explanation and image.
You executed it very well, it completely makes the piece in my opinion.
After seeing your piece i searched around alittle and will be picking up (http://woodproducts.caldowel.com/) some dowels soon (nothing local here). I thinking a new lamp for my living room is in order and something like that plug style will look good.
Thanks again for the info.
